Pharmacy First
Many common conditions can potentially be self-managed. These are often self-limiting and require little or no medical intervention. Many people who consult GPs for common conditions could instead be assisted by a community pharmacist. Pharmacists are trained to deal with common conditions; offering advice, recommending over-the-counter (OTC) products or referring patients to other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
A Pharmacy First Service is a service whereby patients are encouraged to consult with a participating community pharmacy first rather than their GP for a defined list of common conditions. The pharmacist will give advice and (if appropriate) supply medication from an agreed formulary or refer the patient to the GP if necessary. Medicines, when deemed necessary, are supplied free of charge.
Physiotherapy
You do not need to see your doctor to be referred to a Physiotherapist. A self referral service is available directly to the UHD physiotherapy department, you can do this by either printing the referral from the Forms to Download tab or collecting a form from the foyer of the surgery.
Podiatry
The podiatry service offers short term interventions for patients with no medical need, offering advice and education on management of their problem accompanied by an individualised treatment plan.
Referral to the Podiatry Service can be made by yourself using the departments self-referral form which can be printed from the Forms to Download tab or collected from the foyer of the surgery.

Text Messaging Service
In order to improve our patient service we would like to communicate in the most efficient and effective way possible, we are therefore offering SMS text messages and/or Emails as an additional method of contact. This allows the practice to send a message (outgoing only) directly from our clinical system with a copy of the message being automatically saved to your medical record.
The practice will now use this method to send test results and notify you of medication or sickline reviews.
This service will also enable a text reminder service for the following clinics:
Diabetic, Asthma, Blood Pressure, Heart, COPD, Smear and Thyroid. If you are over 65 or under 65 and in the 'at risk' category the practice will also call you to our annual Flu Vaccination Clinics or other appropriate clinics in this manor.
Please print a consent form (Forms to Download section) also available from the stand in the foyer, and return to reception.
Thank you.
